What is Dandadan?
Dandadan is a manga series written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu. It began serialization on April 6, 2021, in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump.
Yukinobu Tatsu, a former assistant to Tatsuki Fujimoto—the creator of Fire Punch and Chainsaw Man—brings a fresh perspective to the supernatural genre, blending sci-fi and horror in a seamless narrative.
The anime adaptation of Dandadan is being produced by Science SARU, the Japanese animation studio known for its work on Devilman Crybaby and Star Wars Visions.
Dandadan follows the story of Momo Ayase, a high school girl who firmly believes in ghosts but dismisses the existence of aliens. One day, she crosses paths with a boy who holds the opposite belief—he’s obsessed with extraterrestrials but denies that ghosts are real.
The two engage in a heated debate, ultimately making a bet: each will visit a place associated with the other’s belief—Ayase to an alien hotspot and the boy to a haunted location.
To their shock, both discover that aliens and ghosts exist, marking the start of their surreal and dangerous adventure.
Ayase and her new companion must navigate the bizarre and supernatural forces they’ve unleashed as they struggle to return to their normal lives.
