Dungeons & Dragon’s latest iteration brings an honest overhaul for the game’s beloved 5th edition (5e). A lot of new updates are coming to the tabletop RPG, the most prominent of which are the revised classes.
Your class abilities determine how your character can respond in combat, roleplay and exploration scenarios. So we’re looking at the biggest changes in our DnD 2024 classes comparison below!

DnD 2024 classes — Barbarian

“Rage” lasts 1 minute; ends when you don’t attack/take damage during your turn.
“Rage” lasts 10 minutes; can be extended via saving throws and spending another.
“Reckless Attack” gives Advantage on melee attack rolls on your turn.
“Reckless Attack” gives Advantage on melee attack rolls until the start of your next turn.
“Primal Knowledge” gives your Barbarian skill proficiency at Level 3 & 10.
“Primal Knowledge” gives your Barbarian skill proficiencies; when you Rage, you can use Strength for Acrobatics, Intimidation, Perception, Survivability, and Stealth checks.
“Brutal Critical” lets you roll an additional damage dice per crit.
“Brutal Critical” replaced with the “Brutal Strike” feature.
“Persistent Rage” only ends when you choose to/go unconsciuous.
“Persistent Rage” now also lets you regain all Rage uses once per day.
“Primal Champion” raises Strength and Constitution scores by 4, raises max to 24.
“Primal Champion” raises Strength and Constitution scores by 4, raises max to 25.

“Bardic Inspiration” adds a bonus to a d20 roll; must be declared before the actual roll.
“Bardic Inspiration” now lasts 1 hour and can be added after a d20 roll.
Learn a cantrip at 4th level and at 10th level.
Can change Cantrips every level up.
“Expertise” is learned at level 3.
“Expertise” is learned at level 2.
“Font of Inspiration” lets you regain all expended Inspiration on a rest.
“Font of Inspiration” also lets you use a spell slot to use Inspiration again.
“Countercharm” uses an Action to start.
“Countercharm” can be activated using a Reaction.
Another “Expertise” is learned at level 10.
Another “Expertise” is learned at level 9.
“Magical Secrets” gives you two spells from any spell list you can cast.
“Magical Secrets” lets you pick any number of spells from other classes except Paladin, Ranger, and Warlock.
“Superior Inspiration” gained at Level 20.
“Superior Inspiration” gained at Level 19; now grants two Inspiration dice when you have none.

Learn a cantrip at 4th level and at 10th level.
Can change Cantrips every level up.
“Channel Divinity” max 3 uses.
“Channel Divinity” max 4 uses; new “Divine Spark” feature.
“Destroy Undead” kills certain undead who fail their Turn Undead save.
“Destroy Undead” replaced by “Sear Undead”
“Blessed Strike” subclass feature replaces Divine Strike at Level 8.
“Blessed Strike” is now a Level 7 class feature; split into two features (Divine Strike for extra melee damage, Potent Spellcasting for extra magic damage).
“Divine Intervention” lets you call upon your deity with a d100 roll.
“Divine Intervention” lets you cast 5th level or lower spells (except Reaction spells) as a Magic Action without expending a slot (1/Long Rest).
“Divine Intervention” auto-succeeds at Level 20.
“Divine Intervention” lets you cast Wish instead of a 5th-level or lower spell every 2d4 days.

Can spot Druidic messages with Perception checks.

Can change Cantrips every level up.
“Wild Shape” costs an Action; two uses per short or long rest.
Wild Shape” costs a Bonus Action Four “Known Forms” which can be swapped per Long RestForms restricted to beasts 1/4 CR and below; swim and burrow speed granted You use your own HP.
“Archdruid” grants unlimited Wild Shapes
“Archdruid” restores one use of Wild Shape on initiative if you’re out; new “Nature Magician” feature.

Choose a “Fighting Style” at Level 1; they are now Feats.
One use of “Second Wind” per rest.
Two uses of “Second Wind” per long rest; 1 use regained per short rest.
“Action surge” can be used to cast spells.
“Action surge” can’t be used as a Magic action.
“Indomitable” lets you reroll a failed save.
“Indomitable” lets you add your Fighter level to the reroll.

Starting proficiencies include martial weapons with the Light property..
The Bonus Action “Martial Arts” attack requires you to take the Attack action in order to use it.
The Bonus Action “Martial Arts” attack can be used at any time. Damage scaling starts at 1d6. Dexterity can be used for Grapple checks.
Use Ki to perform Flurry of Blows, Patient Defense, and Step of the Wind.
Ki replaced with “Focus Points” (FP)Flurry of Blows doesn’t require an Attack action. Patient Defense Disengage is now free. Step of the Wind Dash is now free.
“Deflect Missile” lets you redirect/reduce ranged attack damage to 0.
“Deflect Attacks” lets you redirect/reduce melee/ranged attack damage to 0.
“Stunning Strike” ends at the end of your next turn.
“Stunning Strike” ends at the start of your next turn.
“Ki-Empowered Strikes” make your attacks magical.
“Empowered Strikes” let you deal Force damage instead.

“Lay on Hands” is an Action that heals and removes diseases.

Spellcasting gained at level 2.
Spellcasting at level 1; can only change one prepared spell per Long Rest.
Choose a “Fighting Style” at Level 2.
Choose any “Fighting Style” at Level 2; can replace this every level up.
“Divine Smite” can be used on any attack.
“Divine Smite” now needs a Bonus Action; can be done 1/turn except as an Opportunity Attack.
“Divine Sense” uses an Action.
“Divine Sense” is a Channel divinity feature.

“Favored Enemy” lets you add more choices at 6th and 14th level.
“Favored Enemy” number now scales as you level up (total of 6); Hunter’s Mark is always prepared.

“Deft Explorer” gives one proficiency Expertise; learn one language.
“Deft Explorer” gives one proficiency Expertise; learn two languages.
“Tireless” number of uses = Proficiency bonus.

“Nature’s Veil” number of uses = Proficiency bonus.

“Reliable Talent” gained at level 11.

“Stroke of Luck” turns a miss into a hit; a failed ability check becomes a 20.

“Twinned Spell” only affects spells with a target of one creature.
“Twinned Spell” only affects spells that can be upcast for more targets; spend 1 Sorcery Point to add another target.
