Deadlock is in the very early stages of development, and a full release is expected sometime in 2025 or 2026.
Currently, the playtest is only available on PC, leaving console users wondering if they will ever get the chance to enjoy the game.
So, is Deadlock coming to consoles? We’ll answer this question in detail in this ONE Esports guide.
Is Deadlock coming to consoles?
At the time of writing, Valve has not announced any plans to release Deadlock on consoles. The game seems to be a PC-exclusive title and will likely remain that way.
Valve isn’t particularly focused on consoles. The last game they released for a console was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
However, while CS:GO instantly became popular on PC and attracted a large player base, it didn’t achieve the same success on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Since then, Valve hasn’t released any games on platforms other than PC.
Should Deadlock get released on consoles?
As of right now, Valve has not discussed the possibility of Deadlock becoming available on consoles in the future. However, they have previously mentioned that they find it challenging to develop games for consoles.
While talking about this, Gabe Newell, the founder of Valve, stated that they became “really frustrated working in walled gardens,” as they sometimes needed to update products “five times in a day.”
It is important to remember that CS:GO was released around 12 years ago, and things were different back then. Since then, many games have been released on consoles and have become hugely successful.
Thanks to advancements in technology, developers can now easily release updates across different platforms. On top of that, considering how successful Overwatch 2 is on consoles, Valve might miss out on a lot by keeping the game limited to a single platform.
All we can do for now is wait and see what the developers have in mind for other platforms.
