The most prestigious event in League of Legends: the World Championship (Worlds 2024) is here. With the tagline “Make Them Believe,” this year’s tournament presents yet another thrilling showdown of skill and strategy.
The LCK and LPL, two regions that have consistently dominated Worlds in recent years, have secured additional spots in the tournament. Their strong performances at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI 2024) earned them each an extra slot, bringing their total representatives to four. This gives both regions a significant advantage as they aim to claim the Summoner’s Cup.

What is the League of Legends Worlds 2024?
Worlds is the annual League of Legends World Championship. It is organized by developers Riot Games, and it is the largest global tournament in LoL esports.
This year, 20 teams from around the globe compete for the coveted Summoner’s Cup championship trophy, over US$2 million prize pool, and the 14th world championship title.

Format of Worlds 2024
This year’s World Championship features a three-stage format: the Play-In Stage, the Swiss Stage, and the Knockout Stage.
Worlds 2024 Play-In Stage format
The Play-In Stage kicks off the tournament with eight teams competing in two double-elimination brackets. Teams from regions CBLOL, LLA, PCS, VCS, LEC, and LCS battle it out in best-of-three matches. The top two teams from each bracket advance to the Swiss Stage.
Worlds 2024 Swiss Stage format
The Swiss Stage is a more dynamic phase where 16 teams, including the four Play-In Stage qualifiers, compete in a series of best-of-one matches. Teams are divided into four pools based on their seeding. The initial matchups are predetermined, ensuring teams from the same region don’t face each other in the first round.
After the initial round, teams are paired based on their win-loss records. This process continues for multiple rounds until teams reach three wins or three losses. The top eight teams with three wins advance to the Knockout Stage.
Worlds 2024 Knockout Stage format
The Knockout Stage is a single-elimination bracket where the eight remaining teams compete in best-of-five matches. Quarterfinal matchups are determined through a draw. Teams with a 3-0 record face those with a 3-2 record.
The winning team of the final match is crowned the 2024 World Champions.
