StarCraft 2 Legend iNcontroL Dies
Geoff ‘iNcontroL’ Robinson, a StarCraft 2 ex-pro player and caster, died suddenly on 20 July, according to the information posted on his own Twitter account. Robinson’s Twitter post states that he passed away due to a sudden onset illness and have asked for privacy while the family works to understand what happened, and to make arrangements.

“With immense grief, we announce Geoff’s unexpected passing due to sudden illness on Saturday. We ask privacy as his family works to understand what happened and make arrangements. To honor Geoff or offer comfort to his family, we suggest donations to @SoCalBulldog, which he loved.”
In case you were wondering about SoCalBulldog, Robinson’s favorite charity, it’s a place where people are able to rescue hurt, abandoned or unwanted bulldogs in Southern California. You can either adopt one, sponsor them or donate money to give them food, shelter, and care.
Robinson started out his career as a Brood War player with achievements dating back to 2007. He placed first place the same year in the WCG USA using Zerg. He then went on to place 3rd and 2nd in the WCG Pan-American Championships in 2008 and 2009 respectively. He also appeared as a contestant on WCG’s The Ultimate Gamer reality TV show, that would pit players against each other in various video games.
His career then went on to include StarCraft 2 with a notable achievement along the way between 2010 and 2019 and was more notably known for his professional casting work for WCS events as well as the SHOUTcraft Kings series. He additionally had his own streams that he did and went on to host The Pylon Show on Twitch each Wednesday.
iNcontroL was one of the original StarCraft 2 players after having received a beta key for the game early on. He joined Evil Geniuses in 2009 and led their SC2 team as it become a powerhouse in gaming between 2009 and 2016 and saw the likes of Manuel ‘Grubby’ Schenkhuizen, Lee ‘Jaedong’ Jae Dong and Benjamin ‘DeMusliM’ Baker serve under him as team captain. From there, he went to set out on his own as a content creator and caster.
Members of the international gaming community have reached out to offer their condolences. Fellow esports commentator and personality Sean ‘day9’ Plott said Robinson was a ‘one-of-a-kind-person’. Jeffrey ‘Trump’ Shih, former Starcraft player turned-streamer said that ‘Geoff is such an awesome guy’.
Plott, ex-pro StarCraft player, well-known YouTuber and personality, across the gaming industry released a 2 and a half hour YouTube video on remembering Robinson. Plott was clearly emotional throughout the video and discussed how much of an impact Robinson was in the industry and how many lives he went on to touch in the StarCraft and esports scene. Robinson’s family did not release any details regarding the cause of his sad passing and unexpectedly leaves us at the age of 33. May he rest in peace.
