SumaiL joins OG Dota 2 team

The two-time International champions OG have announced the arrival of Syed "SumaiL" Hassan as the third member of their Dota 2 roster, following the departure of three of their key players earlier this week.

OG made a massive announcement earlier this Tuesday, January 28, unveiling the arrival of former Evil Geniuses member and 2015 International champion SumaiL, who will join forces with Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen and team captain Johan "N0tail" Sundstein in OG venture into 2019/20 Dota Pro Circuit season.

"Once a rival who lived evil he’s now a precious ally who wants his crown back. It is our honour to welcome our new carry player," read the announcement.

When we talk about legends and superstars in Dota 2 professional scene, we simply cannot forget to mention SumaiL, who has established himself as a Dota 2 prodigy early in his life. At only 15-years-of age, SumaiL joined Evil Genuises, which have been and remain one of the biggest esports organizations in the world. Although not many people believed SumaiL will grow up to be one of the best Dota 2 players when he first put on EG jersey, SumaiL proved everyone wrong and he did not need a long time to do so.

In his rookie season, he won Dota Asian Championship and The International 5, which are two of the biggest and most prestigious tournaments in Dota 2 competitive scene. His success at only 16-years of age earned him renown as one of the biggest and most promising young talents and leader of the younger generation which will take over and revolutionize the Dota world.

Following his incredible rookie season, SumaiL failed to see the same amount of success in years that followed. Although he made it to the International every year, EG and Sumail never again managed to hoist the Aegis of Champions. In 2016 SumaiL and EG finished third at TI, ninth-12th in 2017, third in 2018 and finished last year's venture into International at a fifth-sixth place.

Despite his lack of success on the biggest stage, SumaiL retained an immense amount of respect and support from his fan base, who stuck with him, even after he announced he is leaving EG. The 20-year-old left EG active roster in September 2019, shortly after TI9, and later in September 2019 joined Quincy Crew.

At Quincy Crew, SumaiL played alongside Quinn "CCnC" Callahan, Arif "MSS" Anwar, Avery "SVG" Silverman and his brother Yawar "YawaR" Hassan. The team participated at MDL Chengdu Major North America Closed Qualifier, where they finished fourth and secured a spot in DOTA Summit 11 NA qualifiers where SumaiL and company won the event and punched their ticket for DOTA Summit 11. A day after the event, SumaiL announced his departure from the team and has remained a free agent since.

"The fit wasn't right, there were a lot of role swaps and the synergy just wasn't there," SmuaiL said.

Now he will continue his legacy at OG, where he will chance his second International title and while the said tournament is still almost seven months away, OG's new roster is shaping up nicely as it fields some of the biggest talents in the Dota 2 scene – SumaiL, Topson and N0tail.

As it stands now, OG roster is still two members short of fielding a complete quintet, however, the organization already hinted they might reveal who the two new arrivals will be today, on Wednesday, January 29, on their live talk show. As announced by OG, the talk show will be streamed on the RedBull Twitch channel. The announcement of the talk show read:

"Join our Dota 2 and CS:GO teams for live talk show about OG, our future, next tournaments. And yes SumaiL will be there too! Maybe some more guys as well," clearly hinting OG might unveil their new Dota 2 roster as early as today.

The news of SumaiL's arrival comes shortly after OG parted ways with Anathan "ana" Pham, who decided to extend his break from competitive Dota 2 for the entirety of 2019/20 DPC season, Jesse "JerAx" Vainikka, who retired from Dota 2 competitive scene and Sébastien "Ceb" Debs, who announced he will stepping down from the active OG roster.
