Some anime characters might need this plot armor!
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation season 2 episode 22 has been packed with intense action, heavy emotions, and pivotal character developments.
The most notable moment in this episode is when Rudeus strikes the Manatite-Hydra’s eyes and releases a powerful stone blast spell to decapitate the creature, resulting in the loss of his arm.
Although he tried to restore it with a Shine Healing spell, it wasn’t enough to fully restore it. This has left fans wondering whether he will regain it back or if he will lose it forever.
Spoiler Warning: Light novel spoilers ahead!
What happened to Rudeus’ left arm?
After the Teleportation disaster, Rudeus and his family were scattered across continents. Years passed, and he managed to reunite with most of his family members except for his mom, Zenith.
A decade later, Paul and the rest of his party pinpointed Zenith’s location, hypothesizing that she is within the Teleporter Labyrinth. Struggling to navigate the Labyrinth, Geese sent a letter requesting Rudeus to aid them, believing it would be faster to advance with him joining Paul’s party.
Later that night, Rudeus received a warning from the Man-god, cautioning him about the perils of venturing into the Labyrinth. Instead, the Man-god instructed him to remain at the Magic Academy. Concerned about Zenith, he defied the Man-god and ventured into the Teleporter Labyrinth with Elinalise to meet up with Paul’s party.
When they encountered Paul’s party, Rudeus handed over the book he had borrowed from the Ranoa Magic Academy. This valuable resource helped Geese navigate the Labyrinth more effectively.
With this new information, they were able to make significant progress and advance to the final floor of the Labyrinth, where Zenith was thought to be imprisoned. Paul’s party managed to uncover Zenith’s location.
However, her entire body was crystallized in a magic crystal that the Manatite-Hydra guarded. Without hesitation, Paul lunged at the monster but was unable to subdue the beast due to its regenerative capabilities.
The rest of the party bravely battled the Hydra to assist Paul, but unfortunately, they were defeated on their first attempt. Despite their defeat, they all managed to retreat to safety. However, Paul was determined to rescue his lost wife.
Rudeus managed to calm his father and discuss their options. Thanks to his extensive knowledge of mythical creatures from his previous life, the group decided to swiftly cut off the Hydra’s heads and immediately burn them to prevent regeneration. They successfully managed to sever most of the heads, but the last head clamped down on the protagonist.
Paul valiantly saved Rudeus but tragically perished after his lower body got crushed by the weight of the hydra’s attack. Seizing the opportunity, the latter poked one of the Hydra’s eyes and unleashed an earth spell that severed its head, sacrificing his arms in the process.
Shocked and in pain, Rudeus invoked an advanced Saint-ranked healing magic called “Shine-Healing,” but it was insufficient to regrow his lost limbs. After the battle, they mourned for his father and managed to rescue his mom before escaping the Labyrinth.
Will Rudeus get his arm back?
After the events in the Labyrinth, Rudeus returned to the Academy. Using the doll they discovered in his house, Zonoba created the prosthetic arm “Zariff.” Cliff enhanced it using the scales of the Manalite Hydra, granting Rudeus the ability to negate magic just like the Hydra did.
Eventually, it would get restored thanks to Orsted’s King-class Healing magic, just like Orsted originally restored Rudeus’ heart during their first encounter. However, during their second encounter with Orsted, his other limb gets blasted first before Orsted restores it both.
He would eventually use it as a gauntlet, which would give him the ability to do rocket punches later in the light novel. However, this won’t be the last time he loses his body parts.
There would still be life-threatening adventures for him in the future, but thanks to the King-class healing spells, he would gain the ability to restore them.
