G2 Esports sign P1noy ahead of 2020 LEC season

Kristoffer "P1noy" Pedersen was announced as the newest signing for G2 Esports League of Legends roster earlier this Sunday, which will mark his return to the top-tier of the competition after spending five years playing for some lesser teams.

Following an incredibly successful season, where G2 Esports won two LEC splits, MSI title and claimed a silver medal at the World Championship, the Spanish esports organization decided to not make any roster changes ahead of 2020 season until this Sunday, when they announced the arrival of P1noy as their sixth member of the team.

P1noy started his career as a professional League of Legends player in March 2013, when he joined Team Cursive. Since then, he played for numerous teams, including Tricked eSports, Gambit Gaming, Winterfox, Millenium and Virtus.pro, just to name a few.

His last appearance in a top-tier LoL competition came in 2015 when he played in EU LCS 2015 Spring Split for Gambit. P1noy also had a short stint at Winterfox, where he participated in NACS, before he returned back to Europe. Since 2015, P1noy played for 15 different teams, which competed in EUCS and some lesser leagues, which allowed him to remain involved in the LoL competitive scene, however, he never got a chance to prove himself in the highest tier of the competition.

That, however, might change this season, as he is set to join G2 in their LEC venture, where he will play alongside his two compatriots Rasmus "Caps" Winther and Martin "Wunder" Hansen, as well as Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski, Luka "Perkz" Perković and Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle,

Since P1noy is an ADC main, he will become G2's third ADC player, considering Caps and Perkz announced earlier last month they will alternate between ADC and mid lane during the 2020 season. That, however, does suggest P1noy might not get a lot of stage time, which is why it's easy to see he was brought into the team for the sole purpose to replace the team's former substitute support Hampus "Promisq" Abrahamsson, who parted ways with G2 in November last year.

That said, G2 are entering 2020 LEC as the alpha dogs and if their last season is anything to go by, they should, in theory, have a fairly easy time claiming another LEC title. If Caps and co. manage to live up to the expectations and gain a substantial lead early into the Spring Split, there is a slight possibility we might see G2 giving P1noy a chance to play alongside the 2019 World Championship finalists.

While P1noy might not be one of the best players in the world, he is by no means someone who should be underestimated.

Those, who have been following the LoL scene for the past five years might remember P1noy as a respected ADC during his time at Gambit. Back then, he was widely regarded as an incredibly aggressive player, who did not shy away from going all in and decimating his opponents, which earned him the nickname "The Agressor".

Will he be able to relive his glory days this season, remains to be seen, that said, it's nice to see him back in the top-tier of League of Legends competitive scene, even though he will be simply a substitute.
