The wait is over for fans excited about the live action adaptation of Cells at Work. Warner Brothers Japan has unveiled the main Cells at Work live action cast who brings Akane Shimizu’s beloved manga to life on the big screen.
This exciting announcement sheds light on the team behind the scenes as well, with renowned director Hideki Takeuchi (Nodame Cantabile, Thermae Romae) at the helm and screenwriter Yuichi Tokunaga (Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Princess Jellyfish) crafting the script.
Action aficionados can also rejoice, as Takahito Ouchi (Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho) takes the reins for the film’s action sequences.
Cells at Work takes viewers on a microscopic adventure inside the human body. Here, red blood cells are enthusiastic but easily lost newbies, while white blood cells are cool-headed warriors who battle invading germs.

Mei Nagano takes on the lead role in the live action adaptation of Cells at Work movie.
She’ll be portraying the determined but easily flustered Red Blood Cell AE3803, a character often seen getting lost while making deliveries within the human body.
Mei is a talented actress known for her roles in films like Tomoyo Shiino in My Broken Mariko and live action adaptations like Takagi in Teasing Master Takagi-san and Sanjo Tsubame Rurouni Kenshin.
She’s also lent her voice to characters in the NiNoKuni movie.
Takeru Satoh as White Blood Cell U-1146
Takeru Satoh is the actor for White Blood Cell U-1146 in the Cells at Work movie.
U-1146 belongs to the Neutrophil division, acting as the body’s first line of defense against invading pathogens. He’s a skilled and relentless fighter, ruthlessly eliminating any threats to the body’s well-being.
Despite his cool and somewhat intimidating exterior, U-1146 has a strong sense of duty and prioritizes the body’s safety above all else, even his own life.
Takeru is best known for his roles as Himura Kenshin in the Rurouni Kenshin live action movie franchise and as Ryotaro Nogami in the Kamen Rider Den-O.
He also plays Harumichi Namiki in First Love and Naoki Fujitani in Glass Heart, two television dramas produced by Netflix.
