The League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational broadcast team will be one member short this year. Isaac “Azael” Cummings-Bentley, a seasoned League commentator, has confirmed that he will not be travelling to China for the three-week-long tournament.
Azael shared on social media today that his father is facing health challenges, and to maximize the time spent with him, he will not be going to China for the tournament. Instead, he will be staying in his home country, Canada, for the foreseeable future.
“Just hours before my flight to China, I received the heartbreaking news that my father’s time is limited,” Azael shared on Twitter/X. “I’ve decided to cancel the trip and spend this time in Canada with my family.”
In related news, fellow North American League commentator Clayton “CaptainFlowers” Raines also announced his decision to skip MSI, choosing to focus on his personal health and sleep schedule. It’s important to note that Flowers’ and Azael’s reasons for missing the tournament are unrelated.
Earlier today, Riot announced the complete English MSI broadcast team, featuring shoutcasters from all four major League regions. Azael, who was expected to serve primarily as a color commentator for the event, was included in the announcement. It’s currently unclear if Azael’s spot on the broadcast team will be filled by another shoutcaster or if Riot will leave his slot vacant.
The 2024 League Mid-Season Invitational is set to kick off on Wednesday, May 1, starting with the tournament’s play-in stage.
