Big changes are coming to the Summoner’s Rift soon!
League of Legends Lead Gameplay Designer Matt “Riot Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison posted a preview of LoL patch 14.14 today.
This update focuses on the jungle meta by adjusting AP junglers who rely heavily on the Fated Ashes item. LoL patch 14.14 also aims to empower AD solo laners, making them more competitive picks.
Adding to the hype, this patch marks the official release of Swarm, a brand new bullet-heaven survival mode.
This game mode throws you into a fight against relentless enemy waves. Can you maneuver strategically and survive the ever-increasing chaos?
LoL patch 14.14 notes rundown
LoL patch 14.14 champion buffs
- Aphelios
- Cho’Gath
- Jayce
- Sion
- Smolder
- Teemo
- Zed
With the increase in AP junglers, AD champions in top and mid lanes have seen a decrease in viability. LoL patch 14.14 buffs aim to make them more competitive picks again, including Jayce, Zed, and Irelia.
The developers are happy with the current state of the ADC meta, where many different marksmen are viable picks.
However, Aphelios and Smolder are currently underperforming. This patch provides them with some buffs to make them more relevant picks again.
LoL patch 14.14 champion nerfs
- Bel’Veth
- Brand
- Corki
- Jax
- Kindred
- Lillia
- Nidalee
- Rumble
- Tristana
- Zyra
This patch focuses on nerfing several champions, particularly those who play in the jungle role as Ability Power (AP) junglers.
The introduction of the Fated Ashes item in LoL patch 14.10 aimed to expand the pool of champions viable in the jungle by making it easier for AP champions to farm.
While Riot aimed to encourage AP junglers with this item, some champions became too strong.
Instead of nerfing Fated Ashes directly, LoL developers are focusing on nerfing the champions themselves. This allows Fated Ashes to remain a strong option for these champions while keeping the jungle itemization system healthy.
LoL patch 14.14 champion adjustments
- Aurelion Sol
- Hecarim
- Irelia
- Milio
The damage of Aurelion Sol’s Q, Breath of Life, is getting toned down, but he’ll be buffed in other aspects.
Milio, on the other hand, is being encouraged to be more aggressive in the early game by making his main harassing ability, Ultra Mega Fire Kick, stronger.
LoL patch 14.14 system nerfs
- Absorb Life’s Heal
- Warmog’s Passive HP Threshold
Absorb Life provides a strong healing boost in the early game. This patch shifts that power to the later stages where champions who take this rune won’t heal as much in the early laning phase, but they’ll have stronger healing as the game progresses.
“We’re moving it further to compete with Triumph in the mid to late game especially if you’re split pushing versus teamfighting,” Riot Phroxzon wrote in a post.
This patch’s system nerfs also targets support players who build Warmog’s Armor as their first item. Since most supports don’t have high base health, it’ll be harder for them to meet the item’s activation requirement for the bonus health regen.
This change aims to keep Warmog’s a powerful option for tank champions who naturally build health, making it a more situational second or later item purchase for supports.
