NRG sign Frexs to complete their Apex Legends roster
NRG announced Joseph "Frexs" Sanchez as a new signing for their Apex Legends squad this Saturday, completing their roster ahead of 2020 season, which will be the biggest year for Apex Legends esports scene to date.
As announced this Saturday, Frexs has become a member of NRG's Apex Legends roster, where he will play alongside Brandon "Ace" Winn, Marshall "Mohr" Mohr and Richard "KingRichard" Nelson, who is currently the team's substitute.
The team signed Frexs as a replacement for 19-year-old Coby "dizzy" Meadows, who announced his retirement from Apex Legends competitive scene back in December, in order to focus on his streaming career.
Frexs has started his career as a professional Apex Legends player on March 21, 2019, when he joined forces with Justin "Chappie" Andrews, Greg "Grego" McAllen and Jamison "PVPX" Moore at Cloud9.
Unfortunately for Frexs, success was hard to come by during his time with the C9 organization, as the team failed to achieve any notable results throughout the year. Despite competing mostly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 tournaments, C9 failed to achieve a single title, with their best result coming from Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge – North America #2, where they finished fifth and pocketed $10,800.
Frexs’ first appearance in a Tier 1 tournament came in August when C9 played at EXP Invitational – Apex Legends at X Games Minneapolis, however, even there they severely underperformed and finished 15th out of 20 participating teams, which was a huge blow to the initial hype surrounding the new team.
Barely four days after C9's disastrous performance at X Games, the organization decided to release Grego, Timothy "Overpowered" Liang and Frexs from the team in a bid to field a stronger roster.

A month after being released from C9, Frexs joined up with Team Reciprocity as a stand-in, where he competed at Twitch Rivals – Road to TwitchCon San Diego #1 North America and Apex Legends Preseason Invitational, however, failed to achieve any notable results, finishing the tournaments at the sixth and 24th spot respectively.
Despite his rather mediocre results with C9 and Team Reciprocity, Frexs saw some success with The Youngins and Frexs stack, which finished first at GLL Apex Legends Series – NA Qualifier and went on to finish fourth at the main event in mid-December, which seemingly caught the attention of NRG, who decided to sign the experienced battle royale player to complete their roster.
Frexs has previously competed in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite, where he achieved a fair amount of success, having finished second at the IEM XII – Invitational Katowice as a PUBG player and 33rd-64th at Fortnite Fall Skirmish Series – Week 6 – Grand Finals as a Fortnite player.
His achievements in Fortnite and PUBG earned Frexs a grand total of $9,400 in tournament winnings, which is almost double of what he earned as an Apex Legends pro ($5,696.67).
This signing will offer Frexs a fresh start of his career with one of the biggest esports organizations in the world alongside two of the best players in the scene. Despite his rather lacklustre career achievements, NRG seemingly saw potential in Frexs, who will have huge shoes to fill, as he will serve as a replacement fort dizzy, who was arguably the top player of NRG before he decided to retire.
Suffice to say, NRG are putting a lot of hope in Frexs who will have huge expectations to fulfil in 2020 and while there are not many people who believe he will able to imitate dizzy’s performance right off the bat, Frexs and NRG have received a lot of support from the Apex Legends community, which hopes to be taken aback with that Frexs can bring to the table.
Frexs and NRG's first real test will come later this month when the qualifiers for Apex Legends Global Series take off. There we will see top teams from nine regions compete for a ticket leading to the first Major tournament of the season, set to take place in March 2019.
