Zews officially announced as the new head coach of Evil Geniuses

Ex-MiBR strategist Wilton "zews" Prado will take over as the head coach of Evil Geniuses' CS:GO project, as announced by the North American esports organisation this Saturday.

The 32-year old veteran has been announced as the new head coach of Evil Geniuses, where he will take over for Chet "ImAPet" Singh, who got released from the roster earlier last week, due to a breakdown in his relationship with Tarik "tarik" Celik and the team in-game-leader Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz. This announcement confirms rumours that surfaced only a couple of days ago.

Evil Geniuses are zews' sixth team he will take over for and his second stint with a North American roster, having previously sat at the helm of Team Liquid for over two years, during which he helped Liquid reach new heights and kickstarted their dominant performances throughout 2019.

"Please join us in welcoming zews to the Evil Geniuses family," read the announcement.

"With a long and illustrious history as both a pro player and a coach, Zews has his sights set on the #1 spot in the ESL Pro League and beyond."

Before zews turned to coaching, he was a professional player for almost 10 years in both Counter-Strike: Source and later CS:GO. His career began in late 2005 when he played for Army5 Gaming and later created his own team YeaH! Gaming. During his early years, zews competed in some lesser C-Tier tournaments, where he saw a reasonable amount of success and in October 2012 decided to transition to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with Insight eSports and later ProGaming.TD.

With ProGaming.TD, zews went on to make some serious noise in C-Tier and some online tournaments, however, he decided to hang up his mouse and keyboard relatively early and in August 2015 got picked up by Games Academy as their new head coach. After only three months, zews, Lincoln "fnx" Lau and Epitácio "TACO" de Melo all got picked up by Luminosity, where zews' career as a CS:GO coach reached new heights.

Shortly after joining Luminosity, zews picked up a silver medal at FACEIT 2015 Stage 3 Finals, DreamHack Open Leipzig 2016 and Intel Extreme Masters X – World Championship, as well as won the MLG Major Championship: Columbus 2016 in April 2016. Luminosity continued with their dominant displays into summer, having won ESL Pro League Season 3 – North America, DreamHack Open Austin 2016, ESL Pro League Season 3 – Finals and Esports Championship Series Season 1 – North America, which was enough for the organisation to claim the No.1 spot at the global rankings – a feat Luminosity failed to achieve since.

In summer of 2016, SK Gaming announced the signing of entire Luminosity roster, including zews, who helped his new team make it to the finals of Esports Championship Series Season 1 – Finals and hoist the ESL One: Cologne 2016 title. Only a couple weeks after winning Cologne, zews parted ways with SK and made one last appearance as a player with Immortals, before he got picked up by Team Liquid as their new coach in November 2016.

After returning to his position as a head coach, zews helped Liquid reach immense success throughout his two-year-long stint, which saw the North American organisation ascend from being ranked #17 in the world in December 2016 to sitting at the #3 spot in December 2018. Unfortunately, zews' venture with Liquid came to an end in December 2018, when he got included in a deal, which would see TACO and zews move to MiBR in exchange for Jacky 'Jake' "Stewie2K" Yip.

With MiBR, zews secured a top-four finish at Intel Extreme Masters XIII – Katowice Major 2019 in March 2019, which was the first any only notable result MiBR have achieved since. Failure to help MiBR due to the team's refusal to change and adapt, as stated by zews, led to his departure.

Now he got another chance to prove himself as a CS:GO coach with Evil Geniuses, where he will reunite with tarik and stanislaw, whom he previously coached on Liquid, but as reported failed to establish a strong relationship, which does raise some questions, however, almost three years have passed since, so perhaps their second try at establishing a strong partnership will be more successful.
