Major changes for champions and items are introduced in the League of Legends Patch 14.9 update. It also brings Vanguard, reintroduces the Arena game mode, and launches the Lee Sin ASU.
As patch 14.8 is the MSI patch, no professional games will be played on patch 14.9. This provides an opportunity for significant, experimental changes. Maw of Malmortius and several Fighter items are being modified, and numerous champions are being adjusted.
League of Legends 14.9 Full Patch Notes
The League of Legends Patch 14.9 update will be live on May 1, 2024.
This patch celebrates MSI 2024 with seven new Empyrean skins: Empyrean Akali, Empyrean Brand, Empyrean Kayle, Empyrean Malzahar, Empyrean Nocturne, Empyrean Varus, and Prestige Empyrean Kayle. These skins will all be available on May 1, 2024 at 19:00 UTC.
Vanguard in LoL
Vanguard, Riot Games’ proprietary anti-cheat system, is being launched on all servers in this patch.

XC Enriquez
It was launched on the Philippines server in Patch 14.8. If you’re not on the PH server and you opened your client during this update, your PC’s compatibility with Vanguard will be assessed.
Lee Sin Touch-Up
The Lee Sin visual rework finally updates the Blind Monk
The blind monk is getting a new look, and we think it suits him.

Lee Sin, the Blind Monk, is receiving his touch-up in LoL Patch 14.9. He is getting an Art and Sustainability Update, or ASU, meaning only his visuals will be updated. His abilities will function as they did before.
Sixteen of his skins are also getting the update. Some of them will have their tier and price increased, but players who already own them will receive the update for free.

Fighter items are being adjusted, and Maw of Malmortius is undergoing a complete redesign.
Hexdrinker
Hexdrinker is being modified due to the changes to Maw of Malmortius. The aim is to make magic resist fighter items less overpowering against AP champions.
