ALTERNATE aTTaX promote DuDe to analyst and move Scrunk to IGL role
A German professional esports organisation ALTERNATE aTTaX announced on Saturday, February 29, that they have made some drastic changes to their CS:GO squad, promoting their In-game-leader Dustin "DuDe" Großmann to analyst role, while filling the vacant spot by coach Robin "ScrunK" Röpke, who will return to the battlefield on a temporary basis.
DuDe has been a member of ALTERNATE aTTaX since January 2019, when he arrived from PANTHER Gaming alongside his now-former teammate Mateusz "mantuu" Wilczewski, who left ALTERNATE aTTaX for OG back in December 2019. Shortly after arriving at the German squad, DuDe led his new team to a fourth-place finish at Assembly Winter 2019 and later in February claimed a bronze medal at The WinterNational at DreamHack Leipzig 2019.
As the time went on, ALTERNATE aTTax picked up the pace and hoisted numerous titles, most notably the ESL Meisterschaft: Spring 2019, Esportal Global – German Finals, Esportal Global and the Summer edition of the ESL Meisterschaft. Although DuDe failed to lead his team to any major CS:GO tournament, ALTERNATE aTTax remained a respected B-Tier team in the German CS:GO scene.
To finish the year, ALTERNATE aTTax pocketed silver at ESL Meisterschaft: Winter 2019, to which they added an underwhelming second-place finish at 99Liga S13 Div. 1. Their iffy performances stretched into 2020, where they finished 17th-32nd at DreamHack Open Anaheim Open Qualifiers, seventh-eighth at CMD368 Championship and 17th-32nd at three stages of Europe Minor Championship – Rio 2020 Open Qualifiers.
The poor performances forced ALTERNATE aTTax to start looking at other options in a bid to see some progress. In the end, the German organisation opted for a massive roster switch, which will see DuDe removed from the active roster and promoted to analyst role, while the team's coach ScrunK will be moved back to the battlefield.
“After playing together for over a year we've reached a point where we didn't seem to progress the way we wanted to and a change seemed to be a necessary option”, said DuDe.
“I've spent an amazing year with the boys and everyone involved. I had my biggest successes to date and I can look back to great memories and experiences being part of ALTERNATE aTTaX!
"For the time being, I will try my best to assist the boys where I can and will use the time to think about how and in what position I want to continue in the future”.
ScrunK began his venture into the professional CS:GO scene back in 2012 with Vination eSports e.V. and later played for CPLAY, EYES ON U, Key-Preisvergleich.de and -tba-. In September 2015, ScrunK started his coaching career with Team Coast and later stood at the helm of FolloweSports.com and Splyce. In March 2016, ScrunK returned to the battlefield and played for FAB Games eSport, EURONICS Gaming, DIVIZON, ex-DIVIZON, FriendlyFire, expert eSports and No Limit Gaming until January 2, 2020, when he got acquired by ALTERNATE aTTaX as a replacement coach for Niclas "enkay J" Krumhorn, who left for Sprout.
The 24-year-old coach will now serve as a temporary stand-in player for ALTERNATE aTTaX, until the team finds a permanent fifth player to fill the vacant position.
