Team Unique returns to Dota2 with ex-Gentlemen roster
Team Unique have announced their new Dota2 project, assembled from of ex-Gentlemen roster, which marks the Russian esports organisation's fourth Dota2 squad since their entry in the competitive scene in summer of 2019.
Team Unique assembled their first Dota2 team in July 2019, when they acquired Uvajenie.Hope roster. Unique's first Dota2 project, however, did not last for long, as the Russian organisation decided to drop their lineup in September following a streak of disappointing results, which included failed attempts at CIS Open Qualifiers for The International 2019 and a fifth-place finish at LOOT.BET/DOTA.
At the start of October, Team Unique announced their second Dota2 roster, assembled from Arslan "xannii" Shadjanov, Aybek "Naive-" Tokaev, Oleg "LastHero" Demidovich, Vitaliy "so bad" Oshmankevich and Alexei "j4" Lipai. The new CIS squad went on to produce a mixed bag of results, which included a top-four finish at Russian Esports Cup 2019 Buryatia Republic Qualifier, second at OMG Cup, META'19 Alfa Donate, seventh-eighth place finish at GGBET Championship and gold at VOKA League DOTA Season 1. Shortly after claiming the VOKA League DOTA Season 1 title, however, Team Unique announced they're dropping their Dota2 squad.
On January 20, 2020, Team Unique re-entered Dota2 scene for the third time with a new lineup, which fielded Kamil "aggressive child" Biktimirov, Konstantin "kodos-" Kogai, Vladislav "Petushara" Kozlovsky, Alexander "Nofear" Churochkin and so bad. Nofear and co. went on to finish top-six at Hot Price League Season 2 and Hainan Master Spring Invitational – CIS Qualifier, to which they added an unfortunate third-place finish at ESL One Los Angeles 2020 CIS Open Qualifier, where they lost to Modus Unity in the final match of the event.
In the opening weeks of March, Team Unique took a swing at Epic Challenger League Season 1, Arena of Blood and GGBET Championship 2, but without much success. Fear and his crew finished their run through Epic Challenger League in the group stage, while they failed to make past round one of the playoffs at both Arena of Blood and GGBET Championship 2, where they finished seventh-eighth.
Although Team Unique don't have the most impressive history in Dota2, the Russian esports organisation decided to give Valve's MOBA game title another go with the signing of ex-Gentlemen squad, as announced earlier this Thursday.
The roster will be led by a Russian veteran Ivan “VANSKOR” Skorokhod, who was formerly a member of some of the strongest CIS Dota2 teams, including Team Empire, Natus Vincere, Gambit Esports, Team Spirit, and Flipsid3 Tactics. Some of VANSKOR's most notable accolades in his seven-year-long career include gold medals at ROG MASTERS 2017, Dota 2 Champions League Season 3, Dota 2 Champions League Season 4, silver at StarLadder StarSeries Season 9 and a third-place finish at DreamLeague Season 1.
Joining him will be Egor “19teen” Lexutin, Stanislav “633” Glushan, Evgeniy “Chuvash” Makarov, and Alexey “Zitraks” Ischenko, who have all previously played under forZe and Gentlemen. Since the Russian quintet teamed up under unified banner, they failed to see much success on the DPC front, but still established themselves as a solid CIS squad with their fifth-place finish at fifth at StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 3.
Now VANSKOR will look to continue putting up solid displays under Team Unique's flag. The team is slated to compete at GGBET StayHome Challenge, where they are scheduled to take on FlyToMoon on Thursday, April 2.
