It’s time to perfect your aim from a first-person perspective.
The much anticipated first person mode in Fortnite is nearing its launch, with Epic Games finally confirming a release date.
For those unaware, Epic Games first mentioned the first person mode during their State of Unreal event in March 2024, but didn’t provide a specific release date.
Details on Fortnite’s first person mode
Although no exact release date was provided at the time, we now have a release window for the first person mode in Fortnite.
When will Fortnite’s first person mode be released?
The First Person Camera Mode device is set to enter Beta on December 11, 2024, as revealed in the official announcement. It’s worth noting that its initial launch will be restricted to the Creative island, enabling only custom map creators to use this feature.
Regrettably, as stated during the State of Unreal event in March 2024, the new mode won’t be included in the main Battle Royale mode at launch. However, as development continues, it might make its way into Zero build and build modes.
To integrate this capability into their islands, publishers should navigate to Fortnite’s Creator portal and locate the first person mode feature under Fortnite > Devices > Experiment section.
It’s important that creators keep a few things in mind when adding this new feature:
- During the Beta release, most ranged weapons and the Ballistic Shield can be used in first-person, but not all of them will have custom reload animations.
- Actions such as dual-wielding, swimming, gliding, and skydiving will automatically switch to third-person view.
- Player’s hands or weapon might be hidden during certain actions, and rendering or shadow issues like clipping might occur.
Epic Games states in their blog that backwards compatibility for assets created during the experimental phase cannot be assured.
